Stony Point

Finally made it to the Stony Point mall (”Stoney Pointe Fashione Parke”). Another outdoor mall, as was pointed out here. Not very inviting this time of year.

I went twice, actually. The first time was with The Boy to check it out. He asked why there were plants in the fountain. “It’s a fake fountain,” I explained.

He asked if we could go on the balcony overlooking the walkways. “It’s a fake balcony,” I explained.

He asked about the giant Christmas tree. “It’s a fake tree,” I explained.

A lot of nice shops — Restoration Hardware, yay! — but on my second trip it was a lot colder and I just wanted to buy The Wife’s gifts and get out before I froze. The woman at Movado said hello as I walked by, and suggested that I consider a purchase there.

Considering that A) Movado watches don’t keep time any better than any other brand, B) they really don’t look any nicer, and C) no one wears a watch in the age of cell phones and ubiquitous clocks — well, I passed it by.

Things are moving

The POD is being unloaded, slowly. Christmas and all — with The Boy home from school it’s not as easy to get a whole lot of moving done. But we have it for 21 days before they charge us for another month, which is plenty of time.

Nice to see that I don’t need to pay the city or county a fee for having the POD here. Roanoke wanted a $25 bribe to allow it to sit in the driveway. The PODS people did suggest we check with any homeowners’ associations. I told them we didn’t own, we rented, and I didn’t care what any homeowners’ association thought. They seemed to find that amusing.

Dodgeball

The Boy came home from school today. They played dodgeball in gym. Dodgeball! Banned in so many schools because it can get rough which may make some kids unhappy. But not at his school — yay!
